Notes on "Quantum Funk"

(Notes by Peter Saltzman)

I was about to say that this "reprise" derives absolutely none of it's material from the previous track, but then I remembered that it's twisting-turning theme comes from the phrase in "Quantum Funk" where Katherine sings "universe for being so indifferent to my dreams". Sometimes I'm too obscure even for myself, but the connection is clearly there; if you don't believe me listen to the previous track again.

At any rate this little number starts with some counterpuntal funk and ends in a train wreck— a planned train wreck, though very much in the aleatoric style. (Call it determined indeterminacy, which is my way of reconciling the rift between modern and classical thinking, in music and physics!)
