Quantum Funk

Music & Lyrics by Peter Saltzman

Now and again
I get the blues
I get confused
Does that excuse my behavior?
But then again
I could blame you
Or blame the moon
Or blame the universe for being
So indifferent to my dreams

What kind of place
Could be so cold?
Could be so old?
That it withholds its deep secrets
In time and space
What is my role?
If there's no soul
Then there is
No real difference
Between good and evil
So why even bother
To be kind and civil to you?
Am I confused?
Is it the blues?
Is it the moon?
Or is it you (universal blues)?

Now and again
I get a clue
It isn't you
It isn't me
It isn't you
It isn't me
What can it be?
What can it be?

Notes on "Quantum Funk"

(Notes by Peter Saltzman)

Violinist extraordinaire Katherine Hughes takes the lead vocal on this. An interesting story here: the melody of "Quantum Funk" take it's first several notes from Katherine Hughes' tune "Fall", which Katherine had written with guitarist Steve Roberts several years before KBQF. Katherine also performed "Fall" in a wild arrangement written for the Revolution Ensemble by our mutual friend, composer Doug Lofstrom. And then (the plot thickens) I co-produced and arranged yet another version of the tune in Katherine's superb Four Seasons" CD , released a year after KBQF.
